Data Management

In our experience, Upstream Bears clients have faced numerous challenges with data management such as no formalised data governance including the establishment of a Data Office or limited assessment and implementation of an enterprise data maturity plan based on KPI objectives.

Data Management can also be complicated as it incorporates a wide range of activities from creating and growing the data culture of an organisation right through to system migrations.

Because of these challenges, it is critical to ensure the right environment for data management is established such as a sound data governance program to police the overall management of data and ensure only high-quality data is captures and recorded. As part of data governance, critical components also include a data quality frameworks, policy, standards and procedures which all set the benchmark for data management success.

Upstream Bears places great importance on an organisation’s data as a valuable resource to ensure it can be turned into a reliable asset by having the right to acquire the data, manage, describe, analyse, store and use data.

By analysing the data maturity for an organisation and looking for where opportunities and improvements can be applied through best practice data management, the main business goal is to apply data maturity in order to reach better decisions, greater efficiency and competitive advantage.

Modern Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence

Upstream Bears believe in delivering Business Intelligence solutions that deliver insights that any user can understand and use.  To achieve this, there are a few guiding principles we use to ensure optimisation of technological services. Firstly, we have a thorough understanding of the business process of our partners which is paramount in helping them achieve an effective business intelligence solution.

We believe there is no “one-size-fits-all” solution design, and the most effective approach is to balance best practice whilst taking into consideration business priorities and sustainable cost management. The delivery of these solutions can only be performed by highly skilled consultants hence our framework and processes are based on best practice solutions that will capitalise on data for effective business decision making.

To support these principles, we believe in using the right tools for each job where each component of architecture has its strengths and weaknesses. This incorporates our team of trained consultants that specialise in cloud-based data warehousing services and tools such as Microsoft Azure, AWS and Microsoft 365 that are well known for supporting, securing and integrating environments and tools with ease.

Visualisation and Reporting

Once the architecture is set up and you are gathering the right data, it is time to focus on analysis and reporting. Reporting is more than just numbers! It is needed to help you drive return on investment and make confident, data backed decisions.

In order to achieve this, requirement verification is crucial and also understanding what data is available which will then set the foundation for creating effective reporting displays such as dashboards, create multi - channel reports, analyse marketing campaigns and measure conversions via attribute modelling. Upstream Bears can recommend you the right visual tools to understand complex data, discover patterns, identify trends and ultimately drive a point home.

Data visualization is the future and by using these proven methods, you can respond to issues more rapidly, turn insight into action drive better business decisions and promote creative data exploration in your organisation.

Machine learning and Predictive Analysis

At Upstream Bears we use predictive analytics to sift through your current and historical data to detect trends, forecast events and conditions that should occur at specific times based on the supplied parameters. Predictive analytics can assist your organisation to not only enable unprecedented data correlations but also forecast future outcomes based on historical data. Upstream Bears also specialise in Machine Learning which is a method of data analysis that automates analytical model building. By using system data, this technique can identify patterns and make decisions automatically.

Models are the foundation of predictive analytics and are automated by machine learning. Common types of models used by Upstream Bears include the Customer Lifetime Value Model which pinpoints customers who are most likely to invest more in product and services. Another useful example is the Customer Segmentation Model which is based on grouping customers on similar characteristics and purchasing behaviour. The Quality Assurance Model spots and prevents defects to avoid disappointments and extra costs when providing products or services to customers. Finally, the Data Quality Model unveils the quality of data before investing money on any new project.

As data continues to diversify and change, more and more organisations are embracing machine learning and predictive analysis that will tap into a resource of intelligence that will turn data into timely insights for better, faster decision making.
